Terms of Sale
The terms of your purchase. By completing checkout, you agree to them.
Out & Found is a trade name of Christian Hutchinson, sole proprietor, based in Spokane, Washington, USA. In these terms, “we,” “us,” and “Out & Found” mean that business. “You” means the person buying a guide.
These terms cover every purchase made at www.outandfound.com. By completing checkout, you agree to them.
1. The short version
- You are buying a digital PDF guide for your own relocation planning. It is research, not legal, immigration, tax, financial, or medical advice.
- Because the guide is delivered instantly, all sales are final.
- If something is actually wrong — the file won’t open, you received the wrong guide, or the guide contains a material error — tell us what happened and we will fix it or refund you.
- If we correct the edition you bought within 12 months of your purchase, you get the corrected version free.
- You may share the guide with your spouse, partner, or household. You may not post, resell, or redistribute it.
2. What you are buying
Out & Found sells digital country guides for LGBTQ+ people considering an international move. Each guide is a downloadable PDF published in the edition named on its product page, such as the Retiree Edition. Different editions are separate products; buying one does not include another.
Each guide’s front matter states its edition, version number, and verified-through date. The facts in the guide were checked against the sources it cites as of that date.
Guides are delivered digitally. Nothing is shipped.
3. What a guide is not
We are researchers and editors. We are not your lawyer, immigration adviser, tax adviser, financial planner, real-estate agent, or clinician, and buying a guide does not create a professional relationship of any kind.
- Nothing in a guide is legal advice about your own nationality, family status, gender marker, HIV status, or any other fact that can decide a visa or residency outcome.
- Nothing in a guide is a promise that a visa or residence route will be open, affordable, or available to you.
- Nothing in a guide is tax, Social Security, pension, or medical advice, or a promise that a healthcare system will cover a specific treatment at a stated price.
- Safety information is general. Everyday risk for LGBTQ+ people varies by neighborhood, presentation, and circumstance, and no guide can certify that a place is safe.
- Community listings are snapshots. Venues, clinics, and organizations open and close.
Immigration rules, tax rates, benefit amounts, and healthcare rules change. Before you file an application, move money, sign a lease, or make a healthcare decision, confirm the current rule with the authority the guide cites or with a licensed professional in the relevant country.
4. Who can buy
You must be at least 18 years old to buy a guide. By completing checkout, you confirm that you are authorized to use the payment method you provide and that the information you give us is accurate.
5. Price and currency
The standard price of a single guide is US$97. All prices are in US dollars. If you pay in another currency, your bank or card issuer sets the exchange rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee. Those charges are between you and your bank.
We may change prices at any time. A price change never affects an order you have already paid for.
Discount codes and promotions apply only as stated in the offer, cannot be combined unless the offer says so, and cannot be applied to a past order.
If a guide is ever listed at an obvious mistake price (for example, $9.70 instead of $97), we may cancel the order and refund what you paid.
6. Taxes
Where the law requires it, we add sales tax, use tax, or value-added tax at checkout, calculated from the billing address you provide. The tax is shown before you pay. Please enter your billing address accurately.
7. Payment
We accept major credit and debit cards through Squarespace Payments / Stripe, and PayPal. Payments are processed by those providers. We never see or store your full card number.
Your card or bank statement will show the charge as OUTANDFOUND.COM. If you share an account with someone and want to know exactly what will appear before you buy, email us and we will tell you.
Your order is complete when payment is authorized and you receive an order-confirmation email.
8. Delivery
- Right after checkout, you receive an email with a download link. The same link also appears on the order-confirmation page.
- The download link expires 24 hours after it is sent. If you click an expired link, a fresh link is emailed to you automatically.
- Save the PDF to your own device as soon as you receive it, and keep a backup copy.
- If the email does not arrive within one hour, check your spam or promotions folder, then contact us at hello@outandfound.com with the email address you used at checkout.
- If you lose your copy, email us within 12 months of purchase and we will resend the edition you bought.
If we cannot get a working file to you after reasonable support, we will refund you in full.
9. Your license to use the guide
When you buy a guide, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to read and use it for your own relocation planning. You may:
- download it, store it on your own devices, and print it for personal use;
- share it with your spouse, partner, or members of your household who are planning the move with you;
- share relevant excerpts with a lawyer, accountant, or similar adviser who is helping you with the move.
You may not:
- resell, rent, sublicense, or give away the guide or any part of it;
- post it, or substantial parts of it, online, in a shared drive, in a group, forum, or social-media community, or in any public location;
- buy one copy for an organization and circulate it internally (organizations should contact us about a multi-user license);
- remove or alter the copyright notice, edition, or verified-through date;
- use the guide or its contents to train, fine-tune, or feed an artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system, or upload it to one for summarizing or redistribution;
- use it as the basis for a competing guide, course, or commercial product.
Short quotations with attribution to Out & Found, for review, commentary, or discussion, are welcome.
The guides, including their text, tables, research, and design, are owned by Christian Hutchinson and protected by copyright. Buying a guide does not transfer any ownership. If you breach this section, your license ends.
10. Updates and corrections
Every guide is reviewed twice a year against primary government sources, covering changes to law, visa and residency rules, and LGBTQ+ legal and safety conditions. We also correct guides between reviews when a material change or error comes to light.
- If we publish a corrected version of the same edition within 12 months of your purchase, we will email you a free replacement at the address used at checkout.
- A new edition for a later year, or a different edition, is a separate product.
- If you believe a guide contains an error, write to hello@outandfound.com with the page number and, if you have it, the source you are relying on. We review every report.
11. All sales are final, and when we make it right
Guides are digital files delivered immediately after purchase. Once a guide has been delivered, all sales are final. We do not offer refunds for a change of mind, a decision not to move, disagreement with our editorial judgment, or rule changes that happened after the guide’s verified-through date.
If something is actually wrong with your purchase, we want to know, and we will make it right:
- The file is damaged or won’t open. We will send a working file. If we can’t, we will refund you in full, at any time.
- You bought the wrong guide. Tell us within 14 days of purchase and we will swap it for the country or edition you meant to buy.
- The guide contains a material error. If a fact that matters to a planning decision was wrong as of the verified-through date, we will correct it and send you the corrected file. If we cannot correct it within 30 days of confirming the error, we will refund you.
- The guide is not what the product page described. Tell us within 14 days of purchase and we will fix the problem or refund you.
- We could not deliver the guide. We will refund you in full.
How to ask. Email hello@outandfound.com from the address you used at checkout. Include your order number, the guide and edition, and a description of the problem (for an error, the page number and the source you are relying on). We reply within two business days.
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within 5 business days; your bank or PayPal may take longer to show the credit. After a refund, your license ends and you must delete your copies.
Nothing in this section limits any refund right you have under consumer-protection law that cannot legally be waived.
12. Buyers in the European Union and the United Kingdom
EU and UK consumer law gives buyers of digital content a 14-day right of withdrawal. Because a guide becomes available for immediate download, checkout asks you to (a) consent to immediate delivery and (b) acknowledge that immediate delivery ends that statutory withdrawal right. If you are an EU or UK consumer and that consent and acknowledgement were not given, your statutory withdrawal right applies.
13. Chargebacks and payment disputes
If something is wrong with your order, please email us first. It is almost always faster than a bank dispute. If a chargeback is filed, we will respond to the payment provider with the order record, and a refund cannot also be issued through us for the same charge.
14. Our responsibility
We promise that the guide you receive will be substantially as described on its product page as of your purchase date, and current to its verified-through date. Beyond that promise, and to the extent the law allows, guides are provided as they are.
Relocation is a high-stakes decision, and we take that seriously. But a guide is a research publication, and we cannot be responsible for how any single move turns out. To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for visa or residency refusals, lost income, housing or rental problems, gaps in healthcare coverage, safety incidents, or any other outcome of a move or stay;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses; and
- our total liability connected to any purchase is limited to the amount you paid for that guide.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for our own fraud or willful misconduct, or any right you have under consumer-protection law that cannot legally be limited.
15. Editorial independence
Guides are funded by reader purchases. We do not accept payment from governments, tourism boards, visa services, or property sellers for favorable coverage.
16. Privacy
We know that buying a guide about LGBTQ+ relocation can itself be sensitive. We handle your order information as described in our Privacy Policy.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by contacting us will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Spokane County, Washington, unless the consumer law of your country gives you the right to bring it where you live.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in effect on the date you purchase applies to that purchase. The effective date at the top shows when they last changed.
