Corrections & updates
Errata.
Laws change, thresholds move, and sometimes we get something wrong. When that happens, the correction goes here first, in plain language, and into the next update of the guide. Nothing is changed quietly.

How corrections work
Three commitments, in every guide.
Published here first
Every correction is listed on this page with the guide, the chapter, what changed and what it means for your plans.
Re-verified twice a year
Each guide is checked against its official sources twice a year for changes to law, visa rules and LGBTQ+ safety conditions.
Free for 12 months
If you bought a guide in the last 12 months, the corrected edition is free. Ask for it with your order number.

Retiree EditionThe tax treatment of US Social Security was stated the wrong way round. Under Article 18(1) of the US–France tax treaty, as amended by the 2009 Protocol, US Social Security paid to a French resident is taxable only in the United States.
What it means for you: if you planned for French tax on your Social Security, that line comes out of your budget.

Retiree EditionHIV treatment is free irrespective of immigration status, including on the Temporary Retirement Visitor Visa. The earlier text limited it to eligible residents.
What it means for you: ART does not depend on a resident-class visa. Most other care on a temporary visa is still self-funded.

Retiree EditionTax treaty status updated. Croatia's Parliament ratified the 2022 US–Croatia tax convention on 25 September 2026; it awaits US Senate approval and is not yet in force.
What it means for you: no treaty relief applies yet. Plan on domestic credit rules on each side.

Retiree EditionThe guide said prior authorization from the EOF (National Organization for Medicines) is always required to bring medicine in. Whether it is needed depends on the medicine and the quantity.
What it means for you: confirm with the EOF for your own prescriptions before you travel with them.

Retiree EditionLegal citation corrected: enhanced penalties for offenses motivated by sexual orientation or gender identity sit in Penal Code Article 132-77.

Retiree EditionRe-issued after a full cross-check against official sources. In nine guides, cost-of-living figures that no official body publishes now appear as labelled market estimates.
What it means for you: if your file is dated before 17 October 2026, ask for the current edition.

If a law, threshold or fact in a guide no longer matches an official source, tell us the guide, the page and the source. We check every report.
Report an errorOut & Found guides are research, not legal, tax, medical or immigration advice. Before you apply or budget, confirm the current figures with the official sources in Chapter 16, and with a qualified professional where it matters.
